Presteligence, Inc. is pleased to announce the roll out of the latest version of their Blackmagic News Extra software. Version 3.0 is ready to ship to customers. The software has been completely redesigned and sports a brand new user interface with multiple working surfaces as well as many new innovations that will benefit new and existing customers alike.
Existing customers are already aware of BlackMagic News Extra’s tremendous hard-copy color calibrating capabilities. The software makes proofs from the same ripped files that are used for final output. With BlackMagic placed on the network, users can instantly create contract quality proofs from any RIP on any printer with no changes to the existing workflow.
New Cluster Technology
Version 3.0 has the ability to group computers into a cluster so jobs can be processed on different machines at the same time. "Seeing five jobs imaging, three rendering and a couple printing all at the same time is very impressive”, says Presteligence Vice President of Operations, Randy Plant. Especially useful for high-volume production and quick turn-around sites, the new clustering feature lets you use more than one computer to process jobs. A master machine determines how jobs are distributed across a cluster of networked BlackMagic slaves so you never miss your deadlines again.
Soft Proofing
High-resolution on screen viewing is now supported with version 3.0. Users connected
via the BlackMagic Client can view the soft proof at the nominated output resolution
without any restrictions. Plates can be turned on or off and even assign colors
to plates on the fly to preview all the new plate paint modes. Automatic color
replacement sets can also be assigned. The end user is viewing the original
ripped files with its halftone screening. A floating densitometer tool allows
color dot percentage values to be displayed for each channel.
Paper Profile Creation
Unlike past versions, users can now very easily create their own paper profiles without requiring technical assistance. Paper Profiles are a unique method for describing paper and ink combinations. The software has been designed to make the most effective use of modern variable dot printers. Paper profiles can be created online with any one of the supported measuring instruments. Once the Paper Profiles have been generated, you have the opportunity to set ink limits for your ink and paper combination. Setting the ink limits prior to carrying out the normalization procedure ensures achieving the maximum ink weight possible without saturating the paper with ink.
CL30 Printer Support
BlackMagic News Extra 3.0 is equipped to drive the Xante CL30 color laser printer, which is available from Presteligence. Traditionally, newspapers have used the HP 1050C for output of proofs from their BlackMagic software. However, many newspaper production and advertising departments requested a printer that costs less, is faster and requires much less space than the large-format printers.
Other product enhancements include:
• Instant Messaging tool built into the client
• Integrated configuration editor for job queuing
• An advanced archiving utility
• Improved server and client logs
• New interface includes multiple work surfaces
• Import tools for replacing color sets from instruments like spectrophotometers
• Page setup pools
• Search engine capabilities for job filtering
BlackMagic News Extra is currently being used at many newspaper publishing sites and advertising agencies including, The New York Times, Dow Jones/Wall Street Journal, Cleveland Plain Dealer, St. Petersburg Times, Toronto Globe and Mail, Indianapolis Star, Torrance Daily Breeze, Capital Gazette, Daily Town Talk, Gainesville Sun and many more.
