Presteligence unveils its latest production workflow NEWSXTREME Modules include XTREME Workflow, XTREME Composing & XTREME Inking

After releasing GUSS in the early 1990s and spending several years reselling, integrating and supporting other vendors’ production workflow software, Presteligence, Inc. has developed and released its own automated prepress system. The new software includes modules for intelligent file routing, efficient bitmap management and cost reducing ink presetting.

NEWSXTREME is the next generation software for film and CTP production workflow environments. The system was designed for efficient high-speed throughput and with a user-friendly interface to make complicated workflows easy to manage. Through our experience over the last 13 years, developing, integrating and supporting both our products and other vendors, we engineered the answer to newspapers’ workflow needs. NEWSXTREME was built to match the demands of our customers and the market as they continue to evolve.

The XTREME Workflow module is the heart and brains of the system. From the time files enter the system via the managed watch folders, prepress workflow automation is achieved. XTREME Workflow can accept and manage any type of file format used in publishing production environments including PDF, TIFF, EPS and more. The system combines naming convention filtering, priority defining tools and conditional erring. Based on defined rules, files are intelligently routed to specific destinations to be manipulated and/or output. XTREME Workflow includes load balancing, on-screen proof review, 3rd-party software integration and birds-eye production tracking.

XTREME Composing is an extremely powerful bitmap manipulation engine that utilizes its built-in intelligence to efficiently prepare pages to be output to any CTP and/or film device. This software can be easily configured for image-ready final output to any vendors’ device. XTREME Composing accepts group 4 TIFF files to be assembled for final layout. Bitmap file manipulation capabilities include page pair, 4-up, rotate, flip, invert, negate, merge, double burn, crop and add elements (text, barcodes, furniture, etc.). The entire process is done automatically based on a plan. The system includes a low-resolution preview for content proofing.

The third NEWSXTREME module, XTREME Inking is currently in operation at four US newspapers, including the Gainesville Sun (FL), the Lakeland Ledger (FL), Ocala Star-Banner (FL) and Wilmington Star-News (NC). The software automatically calculates ink density values and sends that digital information to the press. The benefit of XTREME Inking is its ability to save you the time and money that is normally wasted at the start of each press run, waiting for a quality page to print. This software achieves the quickest possible start time by utilizing the same data used to make the plates and sharing it with the Press Control System. In addition, the return on investment for this system is notable, especially during times of escalating paper prices.
