Pioneer Newspapers Standardizes with NewsXtreme North Canton, OH, September 21, 2006 Pioneer Newspapers selected NewsXtreme to replace Screen's TrueFlow workflow for five of their properties. The Idaho State Journal, Herald Journal, and Bear River Publishing installed NewsXtreme earlier this summer. The final two sites, Idaho Press Tribune and Bozeman Daily Chronicle were installed in August. Since then, Skagit Valley Herald in Washington has also purchased NewsXtreme. The first three installations are not only geographically close to one another but also contain intertwined workflow processes. Both Idaho State Journal (Pocatello, ID) and Herald Journal (Logan, UT) rip and approve their pages in NewsXtreme. Some pieces also flow to a proofer for a hard copy proof. The TIFF outputs are then managed from the input at Bear River Publishing for composing and plate approval, if scheduled. Bear River Publishing also handles an extensive amount of commercial work. Through NewsXtreme's scheduler and plate configuration wizard, adding additional products is effortless. "NewsXtreme gave us exactly what we needed - speed, flexibility, PDF workflow, and a simple web-enabled interface to handle our many different web widths, color positions, page layouts, and fold configuration," says Justin Smith, Director of Information Technologies for Pioneer Newspapers. The Idaho Press Tribune in Nampa and Bozeman Daily Chronicle stand alone as compared to the other 3 installations. Their workflows consist of one rip connected directly to their Screen platesetters. "They have very standard workflow processes," says Mike Pisani, Project Manager of Nampa's installation. Nampa approves their pages at the plate level and uses the composing portion of NewsXtreme to pair their pages. This feature is included as part of the base system of NewsXtreme. Bozeman's pages are already paired before entering NewsXtreme so they have one less step. Both continue to keep their imagers as backups which is an easy change for NewsXtreme to control.
