Presteligence Customizes NewsXtreme for Korea Daily

North Canton, OH, September 30, 2006

Korea Daily News, Inc., headquartered in Los Angeles, maintains printing sites covering five regions of the United States. As the New York and Los Angeles locations decided on new CTP devices, workflow software was also an important decision for them.

"In order to reduce film and labor costs, it was necessary to choose new technology for this new process," says Sang Soo Park, System Adminstrator of The Korea Daily-Los Angeles.

Prior to CTP
Each day, Korea Daily in Seoul, Korea digitally transmits its editorial content to each print site. The print locations produced each page to film twice-one page from the data from Seoul and the other for their regular coverage including local advertisements. They cut the film and puzzled it back together. This consumed time, resources, and consumables.

Moving to CTP
The New York and Los Angeles sites selected Presteligence's NewsXtreme as their production workflow software solution in conjunction with their purchase of SCREEN's CTP Devices.

"We narrowed down our selection to four companies and selected NewsXtreme because it was web-based, the easy to use interface, and its function to control TIFF files easily," says Park.

As part of the agreement for New York, Presteligence agreed to add multiple page element merging to the system. Before the custom development was finished, New York continued to manually deal with the digitally transmitted pages from Seoul by saving the separate pages as PDFs before importing to NewsXtreme.

"The custom features sets that Presteligence was willing to develop for us made NewsXtreme stand out among the other workflow solutions," said Richard Kang, System Administrator of Korea Daily-New York.

Multiple Page Element Merging
This feature-set provides the capability to automatically merge multiple page & plate elements into one plate image. This capability allows for automated ad stitching, plate multi-burning, building of pages from two or more differing sources, and/or support for half page double-truck banner ads. New York no longer has to manually piece the pages together before processing in NewsXtreme. NewsXtreme handles this for them.

"We love this feature. It saves us an immense amount of time and energy," says Sung Kim, Systems Assistant, Korea Daily-New York.

Presteligence configured the system to consider the content coming from Seoul as the element and the data created locally as the actual pages. As these files process through NewsXtreme, the elements are merged together for a soft proof review at the plate level. They have set up the configuration to pull the element information from the file name, which meshes with the corresponding plate configurations.

This feature-set has vastly improved New York's workflow process by eliminating much of the time, resources, and consumables wasted on a daily basis. L.A has also seen extensive time benefits since using NewsXtreme.

Park says, "We save working time. With film, we had to prepare material and it took a lot longer than it does now. It is very simple to modify schedules-much more automated than we ever were."
