Cox Newspaper Sees Savings with My News...On the Go A daily newspaper serving Grand Junction, CO and outlying areas, The Daily Sentinel/GJSentinel.com reaches more than 31,000 subscribers. The Daily Sentinel/GJSentinel.com, along with the other Cox Community Newspapers, approached Presteligence for an electronic edition of its print product to help curb the costs of printing and distributing to classrooms in the Newspapers in Education (NIE) program. The electronic edition of My News…On the Go was a natural choice for The Daily Sentinel/GJSentinel.com since it already uses Presteligence’s etearsheet solution, Adinfinitum. Presteligence uses the same PDF uploaded for Adinfinitum and processes it for keywords, story jumps, Web sites, and email addresses for My News…On the Go. The Daily Sentinel/GJ Sentinel.com keeps the past 30 days of newspapers available to users, so teachers and students alike can read and search across that archive. Teachers can bookmark pages and denote comments anywhere on a page. Students can then access these bookmarks for homework assignments. Launched officially in late January to a select number of educators, the e-edition of The Daily Sentinel/GJ Sentinel.com soon eliminated printing and distribution costs an average of four days a week for 26 teachers--averaging 20 students each. Preliminary estimates suggest a savings of over $7,000 through the end of the school year using My News…On the Go. Debra Dobbins, Assistant NIE Coordinator, plans to promote the e-edition still another time before the school year ends. An email blast followed by a direct mailing will ask teachers to opt into the e-edition only subscription.
