Erie Times-News Subscribes to Ink-Miser Ink Optimization
Erie Times-News recently subscribed to Presteligence’s Ink Optimization software, Ink-Miser. Presteligence offers a 30 day testing period for ink optimization. After testing for 30 days, it was clear to Erie that Ink-Miser improved the quality of their printed paper by making images look brighter.
Erie Times-News will ‘subscribe’ to the ink optimization service through Presteligence by paying a low monthly service fee which offers optimization of a certain number of pages per month. They intend on documenting their ink costs and savings for the remainder of the year and will decide to purchase Ink-Miser or continue the monthly service through Presteligence.
Ink-Miser runs on the same server as Erie’s NewsXtreme production workflow software so files get optimized without interruption in the workflow. Ink-Miser optimizes PDFs with Grey Component Replacement (GCR) using device-link profiles. It looks at the color make-up of an image and determines the C, M, and Y content of the image that is used to produce grey and replaces it with an equivalent amount of less expensive black ink. Ink-Miser ink optimization can be integrated into any production workflow software and averages a savings of at least 20% for our customers. Other Ink-Miser customers include New York Times Regional Newspapers—Sarasota Herald Tribune, Gainesville Sun, Ocala Star-Banner, Santa Rosa Press Democrat, Lakeland Ledger, and The Repository (Canton, Ohio).
